MASTOPEXY  "BREAST LIFT"

Over the years, factors such as pregnancy, nursing, and gravity take their toll on a woman's breasts. As the skin loses its elasticity, the breasts often lose their shape and firmness and begin to sag. A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a cosmetic procedure designed to raise and reshape sagging breasts to a more youthful appearance. Mastopexy can reduce the extra skin and give the breasts their former fuller shape and feel. In some cases, breast implants are placed in conjunction with a breast lift. This allows patients to increase breast size in addition to obtaining a shapelier, fuller look.

How is a Breast Lift Performed?

A breast lift is usually done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. The location of the incision is around the nipple-areolar complex and may include additional areas depending on the chosen surgical method that is best for you. The nipple-areolar complex is repositioned higher, the excess skin is removed, and the breast is reshaped into a more pleasing contour. The skin is then tightened and contoured to your new shape. A breast lift can also be done with breast implants to enlarge breasts or add upper breast pole fullness.

F.A.Q. about a Breast Lift :

Who is a good candidate for a breast lift?

Candidates for a breast lift are healthy women who are bothered by sagging breasts due to aging, gravity, pregnancy, breast feeding and genetics. Since the procedure remodels sagging breasts, there are limitations to the possible result. As such, patients should have realistic expectation.

What are the risks of having a breast lift?

Any surgical procedure comes with inherent risk, such as anesthetic complication, infection, bleeding, tissue necrosis, numbness and poor scarring. These and other complications are usually rare. Many women undergo breast lift surgery successfully every year and are very satisfied with the outcome. Dr Chun will discuss the risks with you thoroughly during your consultation.

How long is the recovery period?

The length of time it takes to recuperate after a breast lift varies depending on the exact procedure performed and the patient. Most patients require some assistance the day of the procedure. The day after the procedure breast lift patients can resume light activity. It usually takes 4-6 weeks to resume strenuous activity such as exercising or jogging.

Is a Breast Lift Right For Me?

You may be a candidate for breast lift surgery if you have sagging breasts due to past pregnancies, genetics, weight loss or aging. The decision to have a breast lift is an important one that requires researching facts and identifying your personal  goals. Dr Chun can help you visualize your breast lift results, but only you can decide if the procedure is right for you.
