Many women have enhanced their figures and improved their self confidence with breast augmentation. If you're self-conscious about your breast size, breast augmentation offers the opportunity to have shapelier and fuller breasts using the latest cosmetic surgery techniques. We invite you to schedule an in-depth cosmetic consultation with Dr. Chun. Together you will discuss with  your individual goals and decide which implant size is best for your body frame. You will have the opportunity to see pictures of previous  breast augmentation patients and also try on implant sizers to make you feel comfortable with your choices. Whether you would like to change your appearance in certain clothes, make your waist appear smaller, or simply restore the way you once looked before age and pregnancy took their toll, breast augmentation can help you achieve your goals.

How is Breast Augmentation Performed?

Breast augmentation is an outpatient procedure that is performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Chun will work with you to determine which size and type of implants are ideal for your body. During the procedure, a small incision is placed either at the breast crease or around the lower edge of the areola. A saline or silicone implant is placed either behind the breast tissue or behind the pectoralis  muscle. Dr. Chun will help to decide which type of procedure is best for you. The procedure will take between 1-2 hours. After the procedure, a soft, conforming bra or a strap may be worn for about 1-4 weeks to control swelling and maintain the position of the implants. You can resume light activity within a day, but strenuous activity and heavy lifting should be avoided for approximately 4 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions about Breast Augmentation

Who is the best candidate for Breast Augmentation?

In many cases, women wishing to undergo breast augmentation consider their current breast size unbalanced, too small, or disproportionate to their body. Women who have lost a significant amount of weight or who have had children are also good candidates. The presence of sagging may require a breast lift to achieve the desired outcome. Younger candidates must be fully developed before proceeding with this procedure.

What are the risks of having Breast Augmentation?

All surgical procedures come with inherent risk, such as anesthetic complication, infection, bleeding, capsular contracture and implant failure. These and other complications are usually rare. Many women undergo breast augmentation successfully every year and are very satisfied with the outcome. Dr Chun will discuss the risks with you thoroughly during your consultation.

How long is the recovery period?

The length of time it takes to recuperate after breast augmentation varies depending on the exact procedure performed and the healing ability of each patient. Most patients require assistance only for the first day or two. Breast augmentation patients can then usually get around independently. Many return to work within 5-7 days. It usually takes 4 weeks to resume strenuous activity such as exercising or jogging.

Is Breast Augmentation Right For Me?

Dr. Chun will help you visualize your augmentation result, but only you can decide if the procedure is right for you. Women choose to have breast enlargement for a variety of reasons.

  • Enlarge breasts which never developed to a desirable size after puberty
  • Enhance breasts which lost volume and shape after weight loss or pregnancy
  • Create symmetry for breasts which developed unequally
  • Improve the shape of breasts which have a tubular shape or other shape abnormalities
  • Enlarge what some would consider "normal" breasts to a more desirable size
